emma's Blog: New Year, New Baby
January 25, 2008 at 17:59It's a new year, and I'm celebrating the arrival of our new daughter, Pippa, who was born on January 6th. There's nothing like gazing at a new little person to make you stop, take stock, and think about what the new year is going to bring. This year it's going to bring a lot of diaper changes, as well as a host of new media developments to keep us entertained at At Large.
2007 was an invigorating year for the web, with a fresh slew of online applications that brought people online in droves. Social networking sites like Facebook, Flickr and Youtube, have driven up the numbers of people with broadband connections, and increased the time people are spending online. They've also changed HOW people are using the web, which I like.
We're using it more regularly, and for a wider array of tasks, and are creating more connections with real people while we're online. Maybe people will get bored of the big guns like Facebook, and spend time using (and creating) more niche applications in 2008 but, one thing's for sure, there will be a LOT of change & growth online again this year.
So, as I divide my time between Pippa, Angus and my laptop this Spring, I'm grateful to be working in new media. It will change at least as rapidly as my children will change, which means there's no chance I'll be bored at home, or at work, in 2008.
