Matt Mullenweg Feature Interview

He's already made a huge impact on the world by creating software that makes blogging easy. WordPress has seen over 7 million downloads since Matt Mullenweg first started working on it with a friend five years ago.

While most of us would be basking in the glow of success - Matt's just getting started.

When he dropped out of university to take a job in San Francisco, Matt Mullenweg's parents were worried, but felt reassured knowing he'd have medical coverage working for CNET.

One can only imagine what they thought when he quit that job, so he could spend more time developing WordPress, blogging software that Matt and his team were giving away for free.

At 24, Matt's one of a new breed of entrepreneurs who believe open-source software creates opportunities for anyone who wants to get involved, but ultimately belongs, and has a duty to serve, the community.

Uber blogger Robert Scoble says "Matt's one of the smartest people I know, so I always listen to him to see if he’s noticing something happening that I’ve missed." Scoble's blogging software of choice - WordPress.

While he may be giving away his software, Matt's also building huge value in an associated company called Automattic.  One of its main products is spam-fighting software - still free for personal use - but sold to corporations.

This exclusive interview took place following Matt's keynote address at the Northern Voice conference in Vancouver.  You can also hear the entire keynote here
